Is it possible to boycott Chinese goods in India?
The relationship between India and China is going through a very delicate phase. For the past few days, both the big economic powers are standing at the mouth of the war due to the events happening on the Line of Actual Control in Galvan Valley. All the global communities are keeping a close watch on the events happening in this valley.
Under such circumstances, there is an emotional level of protest against China even within the country, the emotional appeal of Chinese products bycott is being released all around. Occasionally such scenes are being seen in which people are burning or breaking Chinese products.
Now the big question is whether in India, currently boycott of Chinese products is practically possible?
Before finding the answer to this question, let us know what is the trade strategy of China and why all the countries of the world including India are disturbed by the trade methods of this country.
In this scenario, you must have heard about the trade war between America and China.
Democracy in China is not even nominal. The government of the Communist Party of China is a dictatorial government. This government has created such an environment in the country to attract more and more investment, China to get the most FDI in the world. Is a country of
All the companies of Europe and America have set up their manufacturing units in this country because raw material is available cheap here and labor is also cheap. These conditions have made China a manufacturing hub on a global scale and the dictatorial government has pushed the people of the country into manufacturing by making tough rules.
China has issued a rule that whichever company of the world will invest in this country will also have to share its technology.
China is also a country for stealing intellectual property and this is the reason why China has not allowed all the world’s big companies such as Google, Amazon Facebook, YouTube etc. to enter their country, while stealing their technology has made their clone companies like Here YouTube runs in place of YouTube, Amazon replaces Amazon, Facebook is replaced by companies like Vaibo and Google has been replaced by companies like Waiku.
Due to lack of democracy in China, the theft of intellectual property cannot be complained in the court here because the government supports it itself.
The second example of China’s wrongful trade is that China is flooding all the markets of the world with its goods, which is also called dumping of goods, due to dumping of goods, the industries running at the local level are ending. Huh.
Because China intentionally reduces the value of its currency and the Chinese government also subsidizes exporters for export, in such a way, China’s goods in the world markets become very cheap and the same process goes on year after year. The goods become monopoly.
If I take this example in the context of India, at present, the Indian mobile market is moving towards the Chinese companies monopoly. Today, more than 80% people own Chinese mobiles. Because when Chinese mobile will get cheaper then why would anyone buy a mobile made by Indian company? And if this process continues for two to three years, then the local producer’s departure from the local market is certain.
Due to these wrong trade policies of China, India, Australia, America and European Union countries are also upset. That is why last year Donald Trump government started trade war with China.
If you try to understand the trade war, then trade wise is a process in which a country imposes high taxes on the products coming from abroad and starts subsidizing the production happening in its country. Seems to be, and this is what Donald Trump did.
Started imposing high tariffs on products coming from China, due to which Chinese goods started getting expensive in American markets.
Its negative impact started to read on the Chinese economy, but the process also hurt the US because many American companies had set up their production units in China, due to which the products of those companies also started getting expensive in American markets.
In such a situation, Donald Trump advised American companies to shift from Chinese markets and many American companies started setting up their manufacturing units in countries like Vietnam and Malaysia. This caused a shock to China, India was also looking for this opportunity and Apple also set up its manufacturing units in India under the Make in India program.
Now if we talk about trade between India and China, then for many consecutive years India has been incurring its trade deficit with China. If talking about the year 2018-19, India imported 70 billion dollars from China. India exported only $ 16 billion to India, causing a trade deficit of 53 billion dollars.
India supplies most of the electronics equipment, toys and pharmaceutical raw materials from China.
In such a situation, we now find the answer to our first question, can India boycott Chinese products?
So the direct answer will be yes, of course, but it will not be so easy, for this, efforts will have to be made from the individual level to the government level.
What to do on a personal level? First of all, delete as many Chinese apps as you can in your phone. But be careful not to break the Chinese phone you are using because you have reached the benefit of buying the product from China. Yes, when you buy a new phone, then buy other brands available in the market such as Samsung which is a South Korean company, Nokia which is a Finnish company, Asus which is a Taiwanese company or buy Indian mobile Micromax and Lava.
Alternate apps of Chinese apps will definitely be found in Play Store or App Store.
At the government level, the current government needs to make special changes in its foreign policy and it needs to do more and more free trade agreements like India has done with ASEAN countries.
Whereas Australia can enter into a free trade agreement with countries such as the European Union and the US and an alternative to China can be easily prepared as India will have to import to meet the domestic demand. The government will have to improve relations with its neighbors.
And yes there is no need to boycott Chinese food because Chinese restaurants running in India are run by Indians only and the food made in it is not sourced from China.
The government should ignore the war situation with China as much as possible.
Schemes like Make in India and Startup India should be implemented more effectively within the country as China will find its own retort when India becomes a hub of manufacturing itself.
